Music To Play Games By: Award-nominated videogames radio show One Life Left launches compilation album of videogame-inspired music
Tuesday, 2nd December, 2008:
Europe’s only FM-broadcast videogame radio show One Life Left has today launched a unique CD compilation of videogame-inspired music.
The album – titled ‘Music To Play Games By’ – has united 12 of the scene’s most celebrated artists, each of which has provided an original track for inclusion on this astonishing collection.
Featuring the likes of Copy, The Doyouinverts, Mark Denardo, The Lost Levels and OLL’s very own Derek Williams, the album is the perfect Christmas gift for those hard-to-buy-for videogame fanatics, or, in fact, anyone with a CD player and/or ears.
The brainchild of journalist and designer Simon Parkin and produced by audio expert Andrew Smillie, the album is a journey through various videogame themes and styles. One Life Left Presents… Music To Play Games By is available now for £6.99 from AmazonUK (http://tinyurl.com/ollcd). But you might have to move fast – the album was produced in a limited run of 1,000 copies.
(And a courier appears to have lost 200 of them, making the album even rarer. That said, if you are offered any for sale from any unauthorised dealers, we’d be interested to know. This reminds us of the time a load of Xbox 360s were nicked, though the OLL CD has a much lower failure rate.)
“The OLL compilation is the first official show merchandise, and a real collaborative effort between the show, its listeners – who have helped define the tracklist –
and some of the finest videogames artists around,” says Ste Curran, OLL co-presenter. “We’re thrilled we’ve been able to badger, cajole and threaten 12 brilliant artists and bands to provide a track for the album, and pleased we don’t have to fulfil our threats to resort to blackmail.”
“It’s genuinely an awesome album,” adds OLL co-presenter Simon Byron. “In keeping with the spirit of the show, I’d rate it 7/10.”
“It makes me dance,” concludes OLL newsfox Ann Scantlebury. “I like dancing.”
The full tracklist is as follows:
1. Copy – Playered
2. Mark Denardo – Monkey Mountain
3. The Lost Levels – Early Sheets
4. Optimus Rhyme – Obey The Moderator
5. Bracken – Heathens (8-Bit Remix)
6. The Duloks – Red Wizard Needs Food Badly
7. Botnik – Oil Ocean
8. Derek Williams – Let’s Play Video Games
9. Frux – Doom and Gloom
10. The Doyouinverts – 7/10
11. Project A-Ko – Materia Girl
12. Kid Carpet – Solitaire Rock
One Life Left Presents… Music To Play Games By is available now priced £6.99, exclusively through Amazon.
One Life Left is broadcast every Monday evening between 7:00pm and 8:00pm on Resonance FM. Listeners outside of London can listen live through the station’s website (http://resonancefm.com/). It is available as a podcast through iTunes shortly afterwards.
ITunes subscribers often receive special bonuses in the form of the show’s celebrated live broadcasts from various parties and events, so it’s well worth subscribing (it’s free!).
Sorry guys, for those of us here in the U.S., we have to get it through the station’s website or iTunes, it’s not for sale on the U.S. version of Amazon.com
