Beneath a Steel Sky (http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/beneath_a_steel_sky) and Lure of the Temptress (http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/lure_of_the_temptress), two classic point-and-click adventure games, are now available for download to every registered GOG.com user at the site’s newest price point – $0.00. The two games have been wrapped with GOG.com’s smooth and slick installers, and “Beneath a Steel Sky” even includes Dave Gibbons’ comic book inspired by the game itself.

“We’re very happy that we’ve managed to get those two great classics before the holidays. The free games are a sort of ‘thank you’ to GOG.com users who have been supporting us since our beta launch”, said Adam Oldakowski, Managing Director of GOG.com. “We like to get things for free as much as anyone else, and we think that these games represent great introductions to classic PC gaming and to the entire GOG.com experience.”

Both games are now available on GOG.com. Everyone who creates an account at GOG.com can download both games and all additional materials for free. The release of free games on the service is part of the “GOG.com fever month” action which has seen the additions of classic PC games like Arx Fatalis, Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee and Simon the Sorcerer to the games catalogue. As always, expect news about new features, new releases and more in the coming days.”

Strong Bad Episode 5 is out today!

It’s dragon killing time! The Strong Bad season finale — starring the infamous Trogdor the Burninator — arrived on WiiWare and PC this morning, bringing the first monthly episodic series for a console to an exciting close. And what a ride it’s been! Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People kicked off with a chart-topping performance on WiiWare (#1 on the most downloaded list for almost all of August!) and has remained a favorite month after month, proving that creative titles based on offbeat characters who dole out advice emails on the Internet really do have a place in the video game world.

Speaking of video game worlds, that’s exactly how the Strong Bad series closes. (Good segue there, eh?) In 8-Bit Is Enough, Strong Bad gets up close and personal with some of his favorite arcade classics on a quest to send the pesky, beefy-armed dragon Trogdor packing, and restore balance to Free Country USA. Sound epic? That’s because it is! If you’re a Strong Bad fan, a video game fan, or a fan of things that are hilarious, you owe it to yourself to check out 8-Bit Is Enough — and the rest of the Strong Bad series.

The finale is available for PC as part of the $34.95 Strong Bad season pass (available from www.telltalegames.com) or can be downloaded from the Wii Shop Channel for 1,000 Wii points. (The WiiWare version is currently only available in North America).

Check it out, its a great way to end an awesome series. It’s been successful enough, let’s hope there’s a season 2 on the horizon!

GamersGate Unveils New Payment System for PCs

Microsuite Poised to Be Most Complete Payment System Available through Digital Distribution

GamersGate, the leading digital distribution platform creating easily accessible gaming experiences for gamers worldwide, today announced the first launch in a series of suites and tools for publishers to increase revenue and streamline operations through digital distribution. The new suite, GamersGate Microsuite, will offer a complete solution for micropayments.

GamersGate Microsuite will allow publishers to sell microitems, enhancements, add-ons, and digital content both in the lobby of the game and in-game. The suite is easy for publishers to integrate into their games and gamers will have all items and purchases collected on their account at GamersGate. The Microsuite empowers developers and publishers to own the transactional elements of their properties with the simple addition of a SDK. At the same time, the consumer benefits from a direct relationship with the game’s publisher and having all their purchases collected on one account.

“I’m confident that this suite will change the landscape for transactions and the complete business model for the industry,” says Theodore Bergquist, CEO of GamersGate. “As consumers increasingly turn to digital distribution as the primary source for gaming, this suite will significantly simplify and improve the experience for developer, publisher, and consumer.”

GamersGate is currently finalizing contracts with several top-tier publishers to integrate the microsuite into their titles. Titles using the system are expected to roll out late Q1 2009.

Buccaneer: The Pursuit of Infamy out now, available worldwide

3D arcade pirate game out on Steam.

5 December 2008 Stickman Studios announces the release of their latest game, Buccaneer: The Pursuit of Infamy.

The game is available for download from Steam for $19.99 from 16:00 PCT today.

Buccaneer is an epic fully-integrated 3D arcade game with a single player campaign and multiplayer options. Players take control of a single pirate ship using a simple and intuitive control method, allowing them to drop straight into the game and tackle missions with little or no practice.

Originally inspired by a naval-themed battle game set in the Napoleonic Wars, Stickman Studios wanted to make a faster-paced arcade-style game based on the same period in history.

“We wanted to give the player control over a single ship rather than a squadron.” explains Simon Nevill of Stickman. “The idea was for the ship to become the character, and what would have more character than a pirate ship?”

And so Buccaneer was born. During the single player campaign, players are only given a basic ship to start with. They have limited gold and no knowledge of the surrounding seas. As missions are completed, more areas are opened up and new ships unlocked.

There are 56 non-linear missions within the campaign, which allows players to attempt their goals in any order they prefer.
Multiplayer pits the Golden Buccaneers against the forces of The Crown in what is essentially a deathmatch with a difference. Battles are fought across ten different multiplayer maps with all ships rated by overall effectiveness.

“The multiplayer is a major aspect of the game and tremendous fun to play.” says Chris Swan, Business Development Director for Blitz Arcade “And you really have to focus on the team-play in order to tackle the larger ships. The experience itself is full of contrast: one moment you’re sailing around an island that is full of tranquility, while the next you find two great Condor Galleons coming out of the bay and you’re being bombarded by cannon fire!”

Stickman Studios was set up in 2005 and is a two-man indie developer, comprising co-founders Simon Nevill and Harvey Greensall. Both the guys are artists with limited programming experience. Their years in the industry gave them the contacts and coder help to complete Buccaneer by hook or by crook.

And while doing some freelance for Blitz Games Studios, based in Leamington Spa, Stickman found the last piece of the puzzle to help them get their game to market.

“We showed Buccaneer to Blitz way back when it was very much a work in progress,” says Simon. “They saw a lot of potential in our game and offered us the chance to sign up to the Blitz 1>UP programme, which has benefitted us in a number of areas – especially QA support. Having been so close to the game for so long, it’s been invaluable to have unbiased feedback. This has helped us make something more polished and more enjoyable.

“Another massive area of support from Blitz has been with industry networking. While our own ‘cheeky charm’ might land us a free ice cream, Blitz’s connections and influence within the industry are considerable. Already this partnership has secured Buccaneer a release on Steam, one of the world’s leading digital distributors, as well as interest from a number of more traditional distributors for a boxed version of the game for 2009.”

GOG.com surprises with a Thurdsay release

Straight out of the Dungeon, Arx Fatalis invades GOG.com
GOG Frenzy Continues as another Top-Notch and DRM-Free RPG Appears on the Site

Warsaw, Poland – December 4, 2008. The frenzy of activity this month at Good Old Games (http://www.gog.com), the home of digitally distributed DRM-free all-time PC classics, continues with today’s announcement that Arx Fatalis, the criminally overlooked first-person RPG from the folks at Arkane Studios, is now available in the GOG.com games catalogue for just $9.99.

With the addition of Arx Fatalis to the ever-growing catalogue at Good Old Games, GOG.com users receive another classic PC game with great storytelling, a gripping plot and lots of dismembered legs, arms and heads. As with all GOG.com games, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the game is 100% DRM-free, costs less than $10 and is available with lots of cool bonus stuff like the official soundtrack, a map of the world, wallpapers and more. Thanks to an exclusive new patch from Arkane, the game is now 100% compatible with Windows XP and Vista.

Arx Fatalis is another great addition to the GOG.com games catalogue. The game was warmly received by media and players, and this is a great chance for anyone who overlooked it the first time to experience one of the best action-RPGs in recent years,” said Adam Oldakowski, Managing Director of GOG.com. “The agreement with Arkane also shows that GOG.com isn’t always looking to sign new deals for multiple titles; we’re also searching for the rights for individual gems of PC gaming.”

We are very happy to join the growing list of companies that support the idea behind GOG.com. We believe that adding Arx Fatalis to GOG.com’s game catalogue will expand the fan base of both, the game and GOG.com” – said Raphaël Colantonio, CEO and Creative Director of Arkane Studios.

Arx Fatalis is now available on GOG.com, so visit www.gog.com and experience the best of classic PC games. The announcement of the Arkane agreement is a part of wider action prepared by GOG.com Team called “December is GOG.com fever month”. The Team has prepared lots of new features, new releases and some more agreements to announce this month. So stay tuned for more information from GOG.com in the upcoming days.

Codeminion Releases Six Localized Versions of Ancient Quest of Saqqarah.

Codeminion Releases Six Localized Versions of Ancient Quest of Saqqarah.

Codeminion releases six language versions of their highly successful flagship puzzler – Ancient Quest of Saqqarah. The localizations are fully featured with all the voiced parts being re-recorded. The game is now available in English, German, French, Italian, Spanish and Polish languages.

November 17, 2008 – Independent studio Codeminion Codeminion releases six fully localized language versions of their flagship puzzler – Ancient Quest of Saqqarah, acclaimed by the casual game reviewers as one of the best games in the match-3 genre. The game is now available in English, German, French, Italian, Spanish and Polish languages.

The localization was conducted by Artifex Consultants and all versions are fully featured with all the voiced parts being re-recorded from scratch. “Good voice acting is crucial in Saqqarah for building the atmosphere and guiding the player through the game. We knew we have to re-record all the voices from scratch for the translation, if we want the players to fully experience the game.” – explains Konrad Olesiewicz, game producer and Codeminion co-owner.

Codeminion says they have review copies available for any non-English outlets that would be interested in writing about the game. “We would like to reach people who were previously unable to play Saqqarah because of the language barrier. We would definitely be interested in casual-oriented websites that could present our games to a new audience”.

Ancient Quest of Saqqarah is a large and highly successful casual puzzle game, described by GameZebo as “benchmark against which to score all future competition”. It features over 500 levels spread across 7 different puzzle mechanics, with production values rarely seen in the casual games market. An expansion ‘SaqPack’, doubling the amount of game’s levels, is already available on the developer’s website at the price of $10.

Saqqarah is the second downloadable game by Codeminion available in multiple language versions. The first one was StoneLoops! – a dynamic marble popper released in localized versions on July 1, 2008. Both games are available from the Codeminion website on a try-before-you-buy basis, at the price of $19.95.

Feyruna 2 – Save The Druids Of The Fairy Forest

Feyruna 2 – Save The Druids Of The Fairy Forest

November 17, Frankenthal, Germany - Jochen Kaercher today announces the release of Feyruna 2 – The Druids – the second chapter of a long-awaited popular arcade game. Feyruna 2 picks up just after the end of the first part. The game requires a combination of action and strategy to fulfill the mission.

In the first part the players had to defeat the Princes of Darkness to restore peace and order throughout the fairy forest. Today, the gameplay of Feyruna 2 is completely different. Dark Crystals appeared in the Fairy Forest and are now sapping the vital energy of all inhabitants. The crystals must be destroyed before they revive the Dark Princes, but so far it is not that simple, as they are immune to fairy magic. Only the mighty Druids can destroy them, but unfortunately they have already lost their power. The player has to supply the Druids with Magic Balls in order to restore their power. The evil servants of the Dark Princes aim to destroy the Magic Balls on their way to the Druids. The mission is to succeed in getting the Magic Balls to their destination.

The player needs to steer a Magic Ball around a series of platforms filled with different traps and perils straight into the hands of a waiting Druid. All the levels contain numerous Druids to be activated and a Dark Crystal that slowly gains power as time goes by. Each Druid is of different color, and the user has to alter the ball to the correct color for each Druid. Once all the Druids have been activated, they are able to destroy the Dark Crystal in a combined attack. The trick is to get Magic Balls to all the Druids before the crystal’s power is critical.

Each level comprises a single screen made up of multiple platforms. Once the player lets the ball go, it will begin rolling in a straight line, pretty much falling off of the first ledge it can find. The player can block it’s path with the mouse, while trap doors and magic portals allow to move the ball quickly from one platform to another. The player can pass the ball through rune stones that can change the ball’s color, provide a safely glide mode and more. Once the mission is cleared and the Druids have destroyed the crystal, the player moves on to the next task, progressing level by level across a map of the forest and the surrounding lands, just like in the first game.

Some of the levels are quite tricky, but the game offers plenty of tips for the user. The background art as well as atmospheric music and sound effects present a nice feeling of exploration. Most levels require a combination of action and strategy, while tricky puzzles need to be solved in bonus rounds. Another highlight are the boss levels, which offer an action-oriented gameplay style.

Feyruna 2 consists of 45 challenging levels. Up to 5 player profiles allow to save the progress of each family member. The player can choose 3 difficulty levels depending on the way he wants to pass through the game. Each level of the game has a detailed tutorial help to get started. Feyruna 2 introduces numerous new opponents and powerful Rune Magic that will help to defeat them. In order to rack the player’s brain the game includes a number of tricky puzzles to be solved. With the help of the intuitive mouse control it will be easy for the user to handle every level steering the Magic Ball. Feyruna 2 will be a perfect remedy from boredom and can be easily played by PC users of any age.

Feyruna 2 runs fine on Windows 98SE/ME/NT4/2000/XP and Vista. The minimum requirements are a Pentium 3 CPU, 20 MB on hard disk and 64 MB RAM.

Pricing and availability

The full version of the Feyruna 2 – The Druids is available at a unit price of 19.95 USD. It is also possible to purchase the “Feyruna Fanpack” that includes the full versions of “Feyruna – Fairy Forest” and “Feyruna 2 – The Druids” at a discounted price of 29.95 USD. So as to order the game, just complete the registration and receive a personal license key within 24 hours.
