Road to Patch 1.0.1: New Launcher/Patcher of The Chronicles of Spellborn® & new equipment pieces: the Hoods
From the early Beta phases to the released version, the Launcher/Patcher of The Chronicles of Spellborn® has seen its design modified to reflect important milestones within the lore.
The latest version, codename “The Seal”, mirrors the thawing of the Undying Ice with the artefact known as the Barbarian Seal.
This Launcher/Patcher features two new functionalities. The first one is called “Options”, which lets the players choose the language of the Launcher and of the game, and the second one is a “Check Files” button, which makes sure all files in the Spellborn installation directory are up-to-date and not corrupted.
Each time a player starts up The Chronicles of Spellborn®, the Launcher/Patcher is displayed, showing the latest information about the game, such as hotfixes, content and patch notes.
Screenshots of the Launcher can be found at the following address on The Chronicles of Spellborn® official website:
http://tcos.com/en/news,id148,road_patch_1_0_1_new_launcher.html
In addition, yesterday Spellborn NV also released screenshots of new equipment pieces showcasing brand new Hoods. Like all other pieces of equipment in The Chronicles of Spellborn®, these headpieces do not feature any statistics by themselves and are only available to the players to salvage from defeated opponents or as important quest rewards. Naturally, the hoods will also allow for customization through the use of Item Sigils and colouring.
New adventurers in The Chronicles of Spellborn® can already customize their character with two of the hoods available during character creation.
Screenshots of new Hoods can be found at the following address:

What Lies Hidden, Must Be Found
In The Chronicles of Spellborn® players enter an impressive online game world containing scenic landscapes, majestic cities and the remnants of a shattered world. Alone or with a party of friends, PC adventurers step into a fantasy realm consisting of varied shards: habitable pieces of the destroyed world floating in the magical Deadspell Storm. Those who want to prevail in the actively involving combat of The Chronicles of Spellborn® need to apply their mighty arsenal of skills with actual manual aiming skills. Battles with bloodthirsty creatures, intelligent hostile factions and other human opponents in Player vs. Player battles are waiting. An innovative and tactically challenging combat system with third-person shooter-like controls and a unique rotating Skill Deck provides a breath of fresh air amidst the more traditional MMORPGs. Thanks to a largely extended Unreal Engine 2.5, The Chronicles of Spellborn® boasts stunning 3D graphics, spectacular effects and countless elaborate details. Runes of Magic is ending closed beta phase
Berlin, Dec. 11th 2008: The closed beta phase of Runes of Magic ended on December 10th with a bang. Hundreds of players fought against the conjured up darkness, but it was all in vain: the server went offline until the start of the open beta with the death of all player characters.
Controlled by the community managers Mike Kiefer and Jörg Koonen, the final event of several days duration started on Sunday with the first signs of imminence. In the following days constantly growing hordes of monsters brought mischief over the world of Taborea. Hundreds of adventurers formed battle groups to defend their game world.
In a long and final battle against the community manager’s evil twin avatars in the Ystra Highlands, the decision fell late Wednesday night in favor of the forces of darkness. “We are pleased how well the event was accepted by our community”, Mike Kiefer resumed following the event. “The high attendance confirmed, that relying on special ingame events in the future is the way to go.”
Even though the forces of evil were victorious for the time being, the chance for revenge is soon to come: The servers that went offline directly following the end of the event will be back online at the open beta start on Monday, December 15th. From Monday on all interested players are invited to participate in the final phase before the release in the first quarter of 2009.

Gaia Online Golden Ticket Holders Gearing Up for Exclusive Early Entry into zOMG! Open Beta
Gradual Gaian Rollout Gives Community Members Play-Dates for Casual MMO
SAN JOSE, Calif. – Oct. 22, 2008
Gaia Online, the world’s most active online community, today announced its development team is making final preparations for the zOMG! Open Beta and will begin rolling out game access to Gaia community members on October 27th. 8,500 lucky Golden Ticket holders will be the first entrants, scoring exclusive early playtime in the casual MMO before the first wave of Gaians flood the game’s gates. zOMG! was created in response to requests from the Gaia community, and their feedback has been the principal driving element in every step of the game’s development. Fervent members participated in focus groups and closed beta testing sessions, and even held a contest to choose the game’s name. Now, the community is getting an opportunity to explore the zOMG! Open Beta before anyone else.
“We know users are anxious to get in and play, and we’re firing on all cylinders to ensure our servers can meet the incredible demand,” said David Georgeson, Senior Producer of zOMG! at Gaia Online. “We’re squeezing Gaians in as quickly as possible, but are 100% dedicated to delivering on our vision of a beautiful, immersive and entertaining casual MMO for players of all persuasions.”
Gaia has utilized Golden Tickets throughout the game’s development to increase community involvement and select participants for the zOMG! Beta program. Enthusiastic Gaians took part in booth promotions at NY Comic Con and Anime Expo during the Closed Beta, and purchased zOMG! Rumble Boxes in the virtual goods marketplace for a shot at Golden Tickets for the upcoming Open Beta. These dedicated virtual world denizens are thirsty for a taste of the action, and clamoring for the prestigious prize of first in-game access.
“We received over 120,000 applications for the Closed Beta from our virtual world community, but obviously couldn’t let them all in,” said Craig Sherman, CEO of Gaia Online. “Members complete hundreds of thousands of micro-transactions per day in the marketplace, and we think the Golden Tickets are a great way to choose which loyal users win this very cool opportunity.”
As Gaians begin lining up at the entry gates of zOMG!, the development team is busy making sure zOMG! can accommodate the rush of eager avatars. Everyone can’t possibly fit through the door at once, so seniority will pay off big-time for Gaians when zOMG! begins rolling out its Open Beta next week. After Golden Ticket holders, virtual world community members with the longest active accounts (4+ years on Gaia) get the first spot in line. The complete rollout schedule will be announced shortly, and general public access will be established once the Gaia community is safely in-game. zOMG! will likely be out of Beta later this year and will continue to grow and evolve over time, as members offer feedback and continue to shape their world.
